4.3.26. Check of degree of wear of brake shoes, disks and drums

It will be required to you: caliper or ruler.

Note
If when braking the car takes away aside or extraneous noise is heard, check a condition of brake shoes.

1. Install the car on the elevator or a jack (supports).
2. Remove a forward wheel.
3. Check through an opening in the case of a brake bracket a condition of blocks. If thickness of frictional overlays of less admissible (tab. 4.3), replace brake shoes (see. "Replacement of brake shoes of the brake mechanism of a forward wheel").
4. Measure thickness of a brake disk. If its thickness of less admissible (see tab. 4.3), replace a brake disk (see. "Replacement of a brake disk").

Table 4.3 Sizes of brake shoes, disks and drums, mm

Note
Minimum admissible thickness of a brake disk is specified on a flange of a brake disk.

5. For check of degree of wear of brake shoes of the back brake mechanism remove a back wheel and the brake drum (see. "Removal and installation of the brake drum").
6. Measure thickness of a frictional slip together with the basis. If thickness of less admissible (see tab. 4.3), replace blocks (see. "Replacement of brake shoes of the brake mechanism of a back wheel").

Note
Replace blocks in the following cases:
– thickness of frictional slips is less than 2 mm;
– the surface of slips is greasy;
– slips are unsteadily connected to the basis.

7. Measure diameter of a working surface of the brake drum. If it is more admissible (see tab. 4.3), replace a drum (see. "Replacement of the brake drum").

Note
The most admissible working diameter of the brake drum is specified (in inches) on its outer side.
