9.9.2. Replacement of blocks of brake mechanisms of back wheels

Minimum admissible thickness of frictional overlays of brake shoes makes 0,5 mm.
Replace blocks in the following cases:
– thickness of frictional slips is less than admissible value;
– the surface of slips is greasy;
– the frictional slip is unsteadily connected to the basis;
– slips with deep furrows and chips.
It will be required to you: a key for bolts of wheels, passatizh or the screw-driver with a flat edge, sliding passatizh.
1. Include the I transfer and establish an emphasis under forward wheels.
2. Check that the lever of the parking brake was lowered against the stop down (the car is stirred up).
3. Remove a back wheel.
4. If the level of brake fluid is in a tank of the main brake cylinder on a tag of "MAX" or approaches her, pump out a part of liquid from a tank. Otherwise when replacing blocks it can be splashed out.
6. Unhook passatizham from a forward block the unbent end of the lower coupling spring...
7.... also remove a spring.

Good advice
For convenience of removal of the lower coupling spring bring the lower ends of brake shoes out of an emphasis.

8. Unhook passatizham from an expansion level the unbent end of the fixing spring...

Prevention
During the work as passatizha or the screw-driver be careful. We recommend to use special pincers for removal of coupling springs.

9.... and, having turned the second end of a spring in an opening of a back block, remove a spring.
10. Holding a basic rack, press a cup of fastening of a clamping spring, turn it on a quarter of a turn...
11.... also remove a cup and a spring, and also a basic rack.
12. Similarly remove a cup with a clamping spring of a forward block...
13.... also remove a forward block assembled with an expansion level, a coupling spring, an adjusting wedge and its spring.
14. Disconnect a cable tip from the razzhimny lever and remove a back brake shoe.
15. Remove a spring of adjustment of gaps.
16. Unhook passatizham from an expansion level the end of the top coupling spring...
17.... and, having turned the second end of a spring in an opening of a back block, remove a spring.
18. Remove an expansion level...
19.... and adjusting wedge of gaps.

Prevention
Right after removal of blocks fix pistons of the working cylinder in any available way (for example, pull together with a rubber plait or connect by a wire), otherwise pistons can be pushed out from the cylinder by an expansion spring and from a hydraulic system brake fluid will flow out.

Fig. 9.3. Details of the brake mechanism of a back wheel (details of the brake mechanism on the left side are shown): 1 – cups of clamping springs; 2 – clamping springs; 3 – basic racks; 4 – adjusting wedge of gaps; 5 – expansion level; 6 – coupling spring; 7 – the fixing spring; 8 – back block; 9 – razzhimny lever of the parking brake; 10 – lower coupling spring; 11 – spring of adjustment of gaps; 12 – forward block

20. Clear of pollution and examine details of the brake mechanism (fig. 9.3). Replace the deformed or strongly corroded details. Replace the springs which lost elasticity and bent.

Good advice
At each dismantling of the brake mechanism replace new clamping springs, cups of springs and basic racks.

21. Apply on places of friction of brake shoes about a brake board refractory lubricant for brake mechanisms.
22. Exempt pistons of the working cylinder from the fixing adaptation, squeeze sliding passatizha pistons of the working cylinder and establish brake shoes as it should be, the return to removal.
23. The screw-driver raise an adjusting wedge of gaps for data of blocks up and install the brake drum and a wheel into place.
24. Adjust a gap between brake shoes and a drum, having pressed 10–15 times a brake pedal.
25. Similarly replace brake shoes of the brake mechanism of other wheel.
26. After installation of brake shoes adjust the parking brake system (see. "Adjustment of the drive of the parking brake").
